I AM DELIGHTED TO REPORT THAT A GRANT APPLICATION MADE BY HARTFIELD PARISH COUNCIL TO LEADER GRANT FUNDING HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL. JUST OVER £8,000 WAS APPLIED FOR WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT THE PARISH COUNCIL WOULD NEED TO PROVIDE 25% OF THAT AMOUNT. £6,050 HAS BEEN AWARDED WHICH WILL NOW ALLOW FOR THE EXISTING WC TO BE CONVERTED TO A DISABLED WC, THE INSTALLATION OF NEW KITCHEN UNITS AND APPLIANCES AND THE INSTALLATION OF AN INTRUDER ALARM SYSTEM. THESE WORKS WILL BE CARRIED OUT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
OUR THANKS GO TO CLLR JO EDWARDE WHO PUT IN A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF WORK IN THE PREPARATION AND SUBMISSION OF THIS GRANT APPLICATION.
REPORT FROM CLLR NANCY HOLMES MADE AT PARISH COUNCIL MEETING HELD ON MARCH 1ST 2010
Coalyard. I am absolutely delighted to announce that the Parish Council has finally completed the sale of the back part of the Old Coalyard to allow the building of nine affordable houses for local people.
We have still retained almost half the site together with the old Goods Shed building with its valuable planning permission.
In 2006 as you may recall we purchased the site for £350,000 plus VAT and it has been a long hard road to bring this sale to fruition but John Chalke as Chairman will expand on this shortly. At a recent Parish Council meeting we reported that with the assistance of an experienced tax expert we have already recovered the majority of the VAT with still some more to come.
Now the sale has finally gone through we are at last able to reveal the price which Town and Country Housing Group have paid for the eastern end of the site. Last Friday we were very pleased to receive a cheque from them for £342,848.
Whilst I have headed up these negotiations I would like to thank all my fellow Councillors past and present who have gone through many nail-biting moments when it seemed through no fault of our own we hit problem after problem.
I must also pay tribute to Kevin Hawes who was Chairman in 2005 when I first approached him making the audacious suggestion that as a small rural parish council we should consider buying a coalyard. Kevin has offered unwavering support and invaluable expert assistance to bring this to fruition.
Next I must thank John Chalke who took over as Chairman in 2006. It was a big responsibility to carry on supporting a project that seemed endless but once again he believed strongly in what we were trying to achieve for the parish.
Last but not least I have been lucky working with two great Parish Clerks, Louise Kleinschmidt and Debbie Little who as the responsible financial officers for the Council must have had many sleepless nights wondering if it had all been a dreadful nightmare, they can now relax it was instead a beautiful dream.
I hope Parishioners will feel that the acquisition of the coalyard has been a distinct advantage enhancing playspace for our Playschool, Providing parking for the
